Dance In Music

It is certainly possible to dance without music, but I think that most people would agree it plays a pretty vital role. Just for the fun of it, we thought about starting a list of songs that are specifically about dance or dancers. I thought this was going to be a fun little project (“little” being the operative word) What was I thinking?
I decided to start with a search on songs titled “Ballerina”, and I was blown away by the sheer number of songs that I found, and I have by no means done an exhaustive search. So, I created a list and sorted the songs by alphabetically by genre. Because there were more songs than I expected, so far the list only contains songs that are simply titled “Ballerina”. Variations on ballerina like “Pretty Ballerina” or “Sad Ballerina” will be tackled next. Can you guess how many “Ballerina” songs are out there? Find out by visiting our Ballerina Songs page.
Let me know if there are any glaring omissions.

What are YOUR favorite Dance/Dancer related songs?

Vogue Dancing with Javier Ninja

I have just spent the last few hours exploring vogue dancing on YouTube, and I have decided to share this little snippet, featuring Javier Ninja at the 2007 House Dance International Competition. There are a couple other videos of this particular performance as well, if you want more, but I decided on this one because I thought it was filmed from the best angle and didn’t have a bunch of extra non-dancing footage in it. However, the other videos are interesting because they also show the dancer Javier was competing against: Andre Mizrahi.

Also, during my foray into the world of voguing, I came across a group called the House of Suarez from the UK. They are worth checking out as well.

Welcome to Brenna

We are welcoming Brenna into the fold. She is our newest employee at Centerstage, although she is no newcomer to dance. With 15 years of dance to her credit, we think she will be a great addition to our team.
