Dance School Directory

We get asked all the time about dance schools, and so we have added a Dance School Directory to our site. This is by no means a complete list and really is a work in progress, but hopefully it’s a good start to what we hope will be a useful resource to the community. If you have information about a school that isn’t listed here, feel free to submit the information to centerstagedance (at) qwest.net . The scope for this site will be limited to Western Washington, but it does include all types of dance. Thanks in advance for your input!

Mediterranean Fantasy Festival July 2007

July hosts a great tradition for the bellydance community here in Seattle, and this year it will be celebrating its 20th anniversary. The Babylonian Ensemble presents the Mediterranean Fantasy Festival–or MedFest as it is lovingly called by its devotees. The festival features two solid days of bellydance performance, an outdoor market (Centerstage will be there) with all things bellydance and more, Middle Eastern cuisine and bellydance workshops. This outdoor festival is free and open to the public, and it makes for great family fun!

Who is Broadway Bound?

A few years ago Broadway Bound, a children’s theater organization
moved into the University Heights Center across the street from
our store. People often ask us about the organization, and so
we thought an interview with the staff was in order.

CS: What sets Broadway Bound apart from other children’s theater
groups?

BB: Broadway Bound productions feature an all-kids cast, and the
productions themselves attract audiences of all ages. They are
full, Broadway-quality productions. Our kids learn about
commitment, cooperation and even compassion as they master the
material. They are treated not as kids but as budding young
professionals. They discover important things about themselves
and their ability to achieve lofty ambitions.

CS: Is the focus of Broadway Bound to provide a more recreational
or professional experience for its students?

BB: Both. Broadway Bound Children’s Theatre creates a trans-
forming experience for children ages 5-18 through participation
in a dynamic theatre arts program that combines a fun and
supportive atmosphere with professional standards. Because of
Broadway Bound’s high standards, we require a high level of
commitment, meaning the students can’t miss rehearsals. All of
the teachers are professionals, and all of the productions employ
professional lighting, equipment and Broadway-quality sets and
costumes.

CS: Can anyone sign up, or are auditions required?

BB: Broadway Bound is open to everyone, depending on available
space. Financial aid is also available. The students do audition
for parts, but everyone who gets an audition slot gets a part.

CS: What kind of time commitment is involved for your students?

BB: The students have 2-hour rehearsals twice a week for three
months, and then rehearsal time increases near production time.

CS: What are some of your upcoming productions?

BB: Cabaret, High School Musical, and Seusical the Musical.

CS: Does BB offer classes in addition to the rehearsals for the
productions?

BB: BB is production-oriented; however, we do offer Spring and
Summer camps that cover different subjects. In fact, we just
opened the Summer Camp registration.

CS: How can people register and/or get more information?

BB: They can visit our website at www.BroadwayBound.org or call
206-526-KIDS.
