What is Your Dance Goal?

Keep reading for your chance to win a $25 Gift Certificate!

It’s that time of year when people think about making resolutions for the New Year. Auditions are starting for this year’s summer programs. People are getting ready for the competition seasons. I love this time of year because it’s another beginning. So, I want to know, in terms of dance, what are your plans for the year? What are your goals? It could be as simple as going to a dance class regularly once a week, or it could be winning first place in a competition or getting accepted to the Summer Program of your choice.
Post your response there as a comment, and you will be entered to win a drawing for a $25 gift certificate.
I’ll start first (except I won’t enter myself in the drawing). This year my goal is to create and upload a series of 10 short instructional bellydance videos on YouTube.
Ok, your turn!

My goal this year…is to self teach myself how to Tap Dance and perform one of the routines that I have gotten off some of the tap dance websites. Dance is a great form of exercise – I currently am a Ballroom Dancer – and tap seems like it would really get your legs in shape!

I have quite a few dance goals that I’m always striving toward, but I have two that are very specific to this upcoming year:

Yesterday was my 40th birthday, and my goal this year is to celebrate by taking myself on the road to a few workshops and competitions in other states, to meet and share with other dancers, to challenge myself, and hopefully to inspire other dancers to see that age is just a number and dance is beautiful for everybody, at any stage of their life.

My other goal is to introduce my children to dance, with the dream of sharing with them the lifelong joys and benefits of movement and music. I’ve signed my two year old son up for a parent/toddler dance class, and my six year old daughter will take Irish dance. we all start next week!

I aim to contimue for another10 years at least, so yes age is just a number

My dance goal this year is to find new, local venues for my student performers and to build a larger local dance community.
My other dance goal is to save enough money for a return trip to Egypt to study dance.

My dance goals this year are to develop a strong daily practice, and to become stronger and bolder as a dancer. I want to become more connected with the dance community, and be able to promote myself more. Besides that, have more fun!! ;-)

My dance goal this year is to get back into tip-top belly dance shape after the birth of my son last year. It’s going to be a looong road, but I know it will be worth it in the end!

This year I am all about the body… strong and flexible. My goal is to develop well trained and versatile dancers via my technique-for-serious-dancers class and form the seeds of my first dance company.

My goal is to find myself. In the dance in the music. I feel I am so close and it’s just waiting to explode. But something is holding me back. I’m hoping it’s just hormones.

My dance goal this year is to work harder than I ever have before on those little things that make the a professional dancer. I plan to cross train in different disciplines to achieve this, and I hope to be able to post my first You Tube video by the end of the year! I’ve always been too shy, but no more – this will be MY year ;)

My goal this year is to internalize and find who I am through dance. I would like to throw out all expectations of what a belly dancer is, and reinvent what *I* think it is in my own dance. I no longer want to do and be what those in my community all do and are, but would like to bring something unique to the table. Something that is 100% me.

My goal is to perform as much as I can, solo or troupe, and hopefully shift more into being able to perform solo for events that my troupe/class instructor has available for us. Take as many workshops as I can, practice my other dances as much as I can, and be able to at the end of year compose AT LEAST ONE great solo in samba and Polynesian (both hula and Tahitian). Also work on knowing and mastering as many props as possible. And do all this being ORIGINAL :)

Short term- Perform my Tribal/Martial Arts fusion piece at Rakkasah west next month.

Long term- Step into the world of Egyptian style bellydance with a local instructor. See if we can answer the question…”If you take the girl out of Tribal, can you take the Tribal out of the girl?” ;-)

My dance goals this year are to take yoga at least twice a week, to explore my dancing through yoga… to become my dance…to not be afraid of what I can become in my dance…to let my spirit shine through!
